About QPR & BSBB
What is QPR?
Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) is a nationally recognized, evidence-based suicide prevention training that can be taken online or in-person. In just 90 minutes, participants learn how to:
- Recognize warning signs of suicide
- Ask direct, compassionate questions
- Persuade someone to seek help
- Refer them to appropriate resources
Think of QPR as CPR for mental health – equipping everyday people with the tools to save lives.
What is BSBB?
Be Sensitive, Be Brave (BSBB) workshops are 2-hour, interactive trainings designed to strengthen community awareness of mental health and suicide prevention. Each workshop weaves culture and diversity throughout the training, helping participants build confidence to start conversations, recognize signs of distress, and connect others to appropriate resources.
BSBB can be delivered online or in-person by trained community facilitators. The workshops are open to helpers for all ages, making them a flexible and accessible option for communities across Oregon.
Why These Programs Matter in Oregon
Oregon faces one of the highest suicide rates in the nation, and access to culturally responsive support is not always equitable. By expanding QPR and BSBB across the state, we aim to:
- Reach youth with tools to support their peers
- Strengthen communities of color with trainings that reflect their experiences and values
- Build and sustain a statewide network of trainers who bring suicide prevention and mental health awareness into schools, workplaces, and communities
Together, QPR and BSBB are creating a stronger, more connected Oregon.
Culturally Responsive Focus
We know that suicide and mental health challenges do not impact all communities equally. Our work prioritizes:
- Latine youth and families
- Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities
- LGBTQ+ youth and adults
- Underserved rural and frontier communities
By centering the voices of those most affected, these programs ensure prevention efforts are meaningful, accessible, and sustainable.
